Giving TinyMCE a makeover

We have been using the tinyMCE plugin for our CMS for quite some time now. It's simple to use, has a familir interface, it's lightweight, flexible and best of all, it's well documented and supported. We really only ever had one complaint, it's popup boxes were a little ugly, and heavy.

What it was.

No doubt you have at some point used TinyMCE. It is one of the most popular text editors online. Many, many, many web applications, blogs, editors, formums and more use it everyday to edit the content on their sites. We ourselves have used it in our CMS for years, and we felt it was time for a facelift, since the best theme available has not been changed since 2007.

What we did.

We went for a darker them, to suit our CMS, it is clean, has subtle textures, and works in all current popular browsers. We are also working on a lighter theme based on the same layout for those who might want that too. We have also removed many of the less used options for every section of TinyMCE. They could be useful to some, but 90% of users never need these and are sometimes intimidated by so many options.

Over the next little while, we will tweak and modify our theme a little more, make sure it's just right and release it for consumption. We hope it makes your lives a little easier for you and your clients.
